Preface
As a seasoned NetEase Cloud Music user, I've been looking for a third-party music player that better fits my needs. Although the official client is feature-rich, it starts up slowly and consumes a lot of resources, which made me quite dissatisfied with it, hoping to find an alternative (love the new, hate the old just kidding).
During my exploration, I tried several popular third-party players, including BetterNCM, HyPlayer, and finally the one that satisfied me the most, SPlayer. Here are my experiences and final recommendation.
🎵 First Stop: BetterNCM—Plugin-Style Expansion Exploration
BetterNCM is a plugin extension system based on the official NetEase Cloud client. Simply put, it's not a completely independent player; instead, it expands and optimizes functionality by loading plugins on top of the official client.

Advantages:
- Rich features: The plugin ecosystem is very active, covering everything from lyrics optimization, interface beautification, to quick operations, etc.
- Light modifications: It enhances the official client rather than completely replacing it, making it convenient for users who are used to the native client.
Disadvantages:
- Performance issues: After loading multiple plugins, the client becomes slow to start, and sometimes even freezes or crashes.
- Feeling of bloat: Although it adds more features, the overall experience is still limited by the native client. Piling up plugins makes it feel bloated, like "forcibly stuffing more things" into an already complex system.
Overall, BetterNCM is a decent choice? But it feels more like a "patch" than a "reinvention." For someone like me who seeks simplicity and a smooth experience, it wasn't quite right, and it was a bit troublesome (
Second Stop: HyPlayer—Modern Interface and Features, but Still with Regrets
Next, I turned to HyPlayer. This is a completely independent third-party NetEase Cloud player, developed based on UWP (Universal Windows Platform), with a clean and refreshing design.

Advantages:
- Beautiful and modern: The interface design is very aesthetically pleasing, with a simple layout and intuitive operation.
- Lightweight: No ads or unnecessary additional features, and startup speed is relatively fast.
Disadvantages:
- Many bugs: During use, I encountered some small issues, such as stuttering when playing high-quality music, song skipping, and out-of-sync lyrics. These bugs have not been fully fixed yet (it's a framework issue, so nothing can be done; the development team is still very responsible).
- Development limitations: Because it's based on UWP, HyPlayer cannot run on macOS or Linux. UWP's limitations also mean it lacks some common interaction details, such as adjusting volume with the scroll wheel.
- Not comprehensive enough: It falls short in terms of multi-platform support, easy installation, etc.
Overall, HyPlayer is also a player worth trying, but its flaws and platform limitations prevented me from fully committing to it~
Final Choice: SPlayer—A Perfect Combination of Minimalism and Modernity
After some comparison, I finally encountered SPlayer, which can be said to have solved almost all my expectations for a third-party music player.
Why Choose SPlayer?
Simple and Modern Interface Design
SPlayer's interface is very minimalist, with fresh color schemes and smooth, natural animations. It's not as complex as BetterNCM, nor as restricted as HyPlayer. SPlayer made me feel what a "modern" music experience is.

Efficient and Smooth Performance
From startup speed to runtime smoothness, SPlayer performs excellently. Even when loading a large number of music files, it remains very responsive, completely eliminating lag issues.
Cross-Platform Support
Unlike HyPlayer's single-platform support, SPlayer runs smoothly on Windows, macOS, and Linux (open source, can be built independently), meeting my need to switch between multiple devices.
Comprehensive and Thoughtful Features
- NetEase Cloud Music Integration: Supports QR code login, daily check-in, playlist synchronization, and lossless audio playback (requires membership support).
- Local Music Management: Supports multiple formats (MP3, FLAC, etc.), and can also be switched to a local player that does not connect to the internet.
- Customizable Interface and Themes: Overall software interface, cover theme color adaptation, lyrics animation, desktop lyrics, automatic switching between light and dark modes—both visually and in usage experience, it's delightful.
Random Thoughts
Looking back on this journey, I started with BetterNCM's plugin expansion and experienced the diversity of features; then moved to HyPlayer, trying a combination of aesthetics and lightweight design; and finally stopped at SPlayer, finding the music player that truly meets my needs.
SPlayer is not only smooth and efficient but also has a unique modern feel, making it the ideal companion for my music journey.
If you are also looking for a distinctive third-party NetEase Cloud player, why not try these three; perhaps one of them could become your ideal choice~
